In patients having lactose intolerance secondary to a disease, additional symptoms of the infection and disease may coexist. [5]
Malnourishment and poor development
Untreated lactose intolerance in babies can result in severe diarrhea, that can lead to malnourishment and poor development. In babies who are allergic to cow’s milk can have a resulting damaged small intestine cells and may develop a temporary secondary lactose intolerance. In this case there are additional symptoms of allergy, rashes, runny eyes and nose, and anaphylaxis which can be fatal.
