How Do Hydroquinone Creams Treat Melasma?

According to researchers, the active ingredients constituting the hydroquinone creams treat the dark patches on the skin surface by just blocking the function of the tyrosinase enzyme and hinders the production of more melanin.

The hydroxyphenyl compound (HQ) present in the hydroquinone creams inhibits the process of melanin formation by melanocytes, i.e., melanin-producing cells. Tyrosinase is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of dopamine into melanin pigment. Thus there is lesser production of melanin, which ultimately results in lesser dark patches on the skin surface.
