Flavonoids
Flavonoids are certain compounds present in most of the plant-based foods, and they help in providing several health benefits. Flavonoids help in signalling the cell pathways and bring antioxidant properties in the human body. Fruits and vegetables constitute most of the flavonoids, and the flavonoids present in them aid in the inhibition of the tyrosinase enzyme. The inhibition of tyrosinase enzyme by flavonoids helps in naturally preventing the melasma symptoms in most of the patients.
You can use flavonoids rich foods like black mulberry, soy germ, West Indian cherry, bearberry, and buckwheat to improve the skin condition altogether. The active ingredients in flavonoids like quercetin greatly helps in preventing the melanin production by inhibiting the work of the tyrosinase enzyme. Quercetin is present in several foods like fennel leaves, radicchio, kale, cilantro, capers, carob, watercress, and radish leaves. Another important flavonoids present in a variety of foods is luteolin, which provides the skin with the necessary protection against UV rays coming from the sun. The photoaging effects of luteolin are very important in defeating the melasma symptoms naturally by just eating foods like chilli, celery, carrot, and broccoli.
