Cocoa beans
Cocoa beans are one of the richest sources of proanthocyanidin, which is an organic form of flavonoids present in other foods too. The consumption of cocoa beans helps in improving the melasma symptoms in most of the melasma patients with promising results. The oral administration of cocoa beans is very beneficial to inhibit the process of melanogenesis, i.e., the production of melanin pigment in skin layers. The inhibition of melanin production causes improvements in skin texture, and new skin cells start growing, thus reducing the dark patches on the skin surface. There is an effective reduction in pigmentation due to the use of ground cocoa beans in most of the melasma suffering patients, especially in women. Moreover, the use of cocoa beans also inhibits the production of melanin pigment starting after the UV rays induction, thus reducing the melasma symptoms.
