People having narcolepsy fall asleep anytime, anywhere without warning. For instance, a person might be talking with friends or working and suddenly nod off and fall asleep for a few minutes or up to a half hour. After waking up, the patient might feel refreshing but eventually they get sleepy again. The people having narcolepsy might also experience reduced focus and alertness throughout the day. Excessive daytime drowsiness is usually the first symptom to develop for narcolepsy patient. Excessive sleepiness makes it difficult for a person to fully function and concentrate throughout the day.
