What is Urethritis?

Urethritis Surgery

Urethritis Surgery

Surgery may be required in selective patients with bladder outlet obstruction. Surgical options include bladder neck incision, endoluminal implants, laser enucleation or vaporization, and transurethral resection of prostate (TURP).

Bladder neck incision

It  is a surgery that helps in treating urinary tract infection. The procedure is also known as urinary tract reconstruction. It is more commonly used in females, but there are many patients who opt for the surgery since this procedure helps manage the symptoms of an infection which is caused by an enlarged urethra.

Bladder neck incision is a minor surgery in which the surgeon makes an incision near the urethra in women and near the place where the urethra leaves the bladder in men. The cut or incision is made to prevent a urinary tract infection from returning.

Endoluminal implants

Drainage bags are often required in cases of urinary tract infection after medical treatment fails. New medical technology offers patients a new option: endoluminal implants. These sterile, flexible and metallic tubes provide a covered passageway to allow excess urine to drain outside the body without the need for an external bag. The drainage tubes are secured in what’s known as the subcutaneous space. A small reservoir (catheter tip) is placed directly into the urinary bladder through the urethra. Then the tube extends from this catheter tip so any urine can flow from the bladder, through the surgical drain and out of the body.

Laser enucleation

Laser enucleation is now available as your treatment option if surgery is necessary. Laser Enucleation or Laser Curettage has been approved as the option of choice for people with a urinary tract infection. The laser surgery cures these infections without causing any harm to the tissue surrounding it. This method, which is done under general anesthesia, involves two small incisions to expose the prostate, and then the doctor uses lasers to remove the prostate tissue which, in turn, removes all bacteria.

Transurethral resection of prostate (TURP)

Transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) is a surgical treatment for partial obstruction of the urethra in men due to a benign prostate enlargement known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or recurrent UTIs. It’s called the TURP and it has been used since the 1960s to treat benign prostate disease and enlargement. This procedure is now used as a treatment for urinary incontinence and other urinary problems. The TURP removes enlarged, localized prostate tissue that blocks or obstructs the flow of urine through the urethra.
