Sleep disturbances are very common among people with bipolar disorder and is one of the core symptoms of bipolar disorder in majority of the people. According to the American Psychiatric Association, the patients with bipolar disorder feel less need for sleep and tend to stay awake for several days. The manic phase comes with increased levels of energy of excitement which decreases the urge to sleep. On the other hand, the depressive episode tends to disturb the sleep by constant thoughts of suicide and other sad things in life. Insomnia is very prevalent among bipolar disorder patients as well.
