What Causes Bipolar Disorder? Hereditary and Other Factors

Bipolar disorder is one of the disorders that frequently run in families and the studies report that almost 80% of the bipolar disorder cases are due to genetic factors. If one parent is suffering from bipolar disorder then there is a 10% chance of their child to develop the disease. The researchers also report that among all the psychiatric disorders, bipolar disorder is the most likely to pass from one family member to another. While, if both of the parents are suffering from bipolar disorder then the possibility of their child to develop bipolar disorder increases to a 40%. However, it does not mean that every other family member will develop bipolar disorder just because one family member has the condition.
