Drug or alcohol abuse
Drug and alcohol abuse might lead to the development of bipolar disorder in some people with serious and prolonged addictions. Drugs including amphetamines, cocaine, and ecstasy trigger the symptoms of bipolar mania. Excessive amounts of alcohol can also alter the balance of chemicals in brain thus leading to bipolar disorder.
