Bipolar disorder also affects the sexual activity and sexuality of a person. A patient might experiences hypersexuality during the manic phase of bipolar disorder which means that there is a noticeable increase in sexual activity. It might place the person with bipolar disorder at an elevated risk for doing things that might impart negative effects. The unusually higher sex drive might put a person on risk of doing unprotected sex and encounter a sexually transmitted disease (STD). Hypersexuality is one of the common manifestations of bipolar disorder in a large number of patients. There is an elevated aggression in sexual activity, desire for forbidden sex, heightened need for sexual gratification.
