Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel is one of the most common causes of hand pain. In this disease, the median nerve becomes compressed. This particular nerve runs into the hand through the wrist. This compression can happen from repetitive hand and wrist motions, such as typing or using a mouse. The symptoms of carpal tunnel include tingling, numbness, and loss of muscle strength in the hand and fingers.

It is the most common type of nerve entrapment syndrome that affects the hands. However, it is not the only one. For example, we can also have cubital tunnel syndrome when the ulnar nerve is entrapped. This is the second most common neuropathy of the hands.

Nerve entrapment syndrome can cause sensory changes in your hands and motor problems. It is relieved by steroid injection or splints. In some cases, patients do not experience any improvement and require surgical decompression of the affected nerve.
