Wrist injuries can happen when moving heavy objects such as furniture or when lifting objects improperly. Here are some safety tips to follow:

  • Pay attention to the weight you’re lifting: Ensure you lift objects properly. Keeping your wrists straight can be difficult if you’re trying to move something very heavy. If you’re lifting something, make sure the object is close to your body so you can use your legs instead of your back or arms to lift it. If you need to balance the object, do it with your legs, not your armpits or hands.
  • Use proper lifting techniques: To lift something properly at home, bend your knees, keep your back straight, maintain good posture, and bend at the knee. Do not bend at the waist. Keep your head in line with the back, and perform the lift with your legs. Keep your back straight, and lift the object with the legs, not the upper body. When you’re done and leaving the object, make the opposite motion and keep your wrists straight.
  • Ask for help: If you cannot lift the object yourself, ask for help or ask someone else to do it. Lifting objects improperly can cause an injury, especially if you’re a senior.
