The spine is made with natural curves according to mobility expectations of the limbs and to balance body weight properly. The structures of the spine are built according to these natural curves. Also, the soft tissues around the spine respond to the normal curvature. For instance, three muscle groups support your back. They are known as paraspinal muscles and run along the spinal line.

When the spine loses its normal curvatures to either side or to the front or back, the spinal structures become painful, and the muscles around will also become tense and sore. That’s the reason why spinal misalignments commonly cause back pain.

Pain due to spinal misalignments is usually located in the misalignment area itself. In some cases, it is located in adjacent areas, too. It may also cause radiating pain to the arms, legs, or other parts of the body when the misalignment compresses a nerve root.

Posture issues can also cause similar pain, even if there’s no long-lasting problem with the spine’s alignment. When you hold a poor position for a very long time, the spine itself and the structures around it suffer from tension and strain and may give you painful symptoms in different areas of the back.
