  • Maybe it’s not a part of your work, but you just need to move around things at home. You forget about protecting your back, and pain starts right away. When bending over, lifting, and pulling, always try to maintain a straight back. Ask for help if you’re carrying a very heavy weight.
  • Avoid twisting movements of the spine while lifting: By themselves, twisting movements can trigger back pain. But if you perform these movements while lifting weight, the risk is higher still. Instead of lifting and twisting, turn your entire body with the heavy object in your hands. Also, avoid tossing heavy things and carry them to their destination instead. Don’t forget to warm up and stretch before lifting heavy objects.
  • Look for solutions to standing and sitting for long periods: Sometimes, you must stand for an extended period or work sitting for many hours a day. Changing positions frequently and stretching are essential recommendations in these cases to relieve tension in your back. You can even take a break every few minutes and then continue with what you’re doing. If you enjoy what you’re doing, you may not realize that time passes, and you’re still sitting. So, instead of relying on your memory, set up a reminder in your phone to stand and maybe even do a few sit-ups.
