Using a scope to get rid of kidney stones
To get rid of a smaller stone in the kidney or your ureter, the doctor might move a thin lighted scope known as ureteroscope having a camera on it through the bladder and urethra to the ureter. After locating the stone’s location, special tools can break or snare the stone into pieces that pas through the urine. The doctor might also the place a stent or tube in the ureter to promote healing and relieve swelling. A patient might need local or general anesthesia during the procedure.
