Your doctor or healthcare provider might prescribe you a fast-acting insulin that you consume before taking a meal or long-acting (basal) insulin or an intermediate insulin that you consume before going to bed or after waking up. Additionally, as an alternative your doctor might prescribe an oral medication such as Glucophage, Riomet (Metformin), Glynase, Micronase (glyburide), Diabeta, Glumetza and Fortamet.
