Almost 13% of the patients with lung cancers suffer from small cell lung cancers (SCLC) and for this type of cancer, chemotherapy is the main course of treatment. While non-small cell lung cancer patients who get their diagnosis at earlier stages of cancer typically undergo a surgical treatment to fight cancer. On the other hand, almost 63% of the patients with stage 3 non-small cell lung cancer receive chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Chemotherapy adds up to almost 19% of the five-year survival rate among lung cancer patients of all stages. The five-year survival rate for non-small lung cancer is 23% while 6% for small cell lung cancer patients. Chemotherapy works quite effectively to kill cancer cells and promises a 57% more chance of lung cancer patients to cure completely.
