Kidney stones are a common problem for people who consume alkaline water. The stones form when the body tries to get rid of excess minerals by creating crystals in the kidneys. Alkaline water has been shown to increase the risk of developing kidney stones. In one study, participants who drank alkaline water were found to have a significantly higher rate of kidney stone formation than those who did not drink alkaline water.

There are several possible explanations for why alkaline water may increase the risk of kidney stones. One theory is that the high pH of alkaline water can promote the growth of calcium oxalate crystals, which are a major component of kidney stones. Additionally, alkaline water may interfere with the body’s ability to absorb calcium, leading to an increased risk of calcium-based kidney stones.

While most kidney stones will pass without incident, some can become lodged in the urinary tract and cause pain or blockages. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to remove the stones. Drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding foods that are high in oxalates (such as spinach and chocolate) can help prevent kidney stones from forming.

Skin dryness

When the body is unable to retain moisture due to overuse of alkaline water, the skin becomes dry. This can cause the skin to become irritated, cracked, and even bleed. In extreme cases, dry skin can lead to dermatitis or eczema.
