Psychological Complications of Alcohol Abuse
More than 44 percent of alcoholics develop mental health disorders that are not there before alcohol dependance. For example, the development of mood disorders such as major depressive disorder after the onset of dependence is common to alcoholics. Studies show a strong link between alcoholism and depression and anxiety, and alcohol intoxication is involved in 25 percent of suicides.
