Most patients of PE having abdominal pain also have no symptoms of PE typically, occurring at an increasing rate of misdiagnosis. The location of stomach pain is normally in the upper part of the abdomen, especially the ipsilateral area of pulmonary lesions. Most cases are the lower basal/lobe infarction or embolism. The reduction in the symptoms of abdominal pain in the perception of PE, the reduced attention paid to important information of PE underlying the abdominal disease guidance, are the main concerns for the misdiagnosis.
