Signs and Symptoms of Cellulite

In women more than 20 years of age, cellulite appears as the wrinkled, or notched appearance of the skin in the gluteal, femoral, and breast regions. It is colloquially referred to as an “orange-peel” skin or “cottage-cheese” appearance. These presentations are all locally, there happens to be no other systemic or general symptoms specifically caused by cellulite. [3]

The following may occur as associated local complaints:

Tightness

Due to the stretching of the skin against the fat layers, there may be complaints of tightness felt in the affected region. The sclerosis of the fiber cords that underlie skin can also lead to the perception of congestion and tightness in the region.

Furthermore, dimpling of the skin causes skin tissues to form a grape-like appearance. It also increases the stretching of the skin and may contribute of local tightness.
