Types of cellulite

Depending upon the morphology, cellulite may be typified as:

  • Soft cellulite: It’s characterized by a gelatinous mass that is not fixated. This type is soft on palpation and manifests itself as undulating waves. Proper skin care and muscle tone may be helpful.
  • Solid cellulite: Also called hard cellulite, it appears as fixated nodules and gives the skin a pitted surface. It is more common in young women. Early treatment can arrest progression to severity.
  • Edematous cellulite: This is an uncommon type that involves pathology of microcirculation and lymphatic drainage. Mostly it affects the legs, rendering the affected area tender and painful to touch.

It is important to know that more than one type can occur simultaneously.
