Persistent diarrhea
If your diarrhea lasts longer than seven days, you might have any of these problems:
- Celiac disease (allergic reaction to wheat, rye, and barley proteins)
- Deficiencies in enzymes (such as lactose intolerance)
- Toddler’s diarrhea
- Infections (parasites like Giardia, Cryptosporidium)
- Allergy to food
- Disorders of the pancreas (like pancreatic insufficiency, cystic fibrosis)
- Bowel inflammation disease ( Ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease)
- Overconsumption of laxatives
- Several weeks may pass after an acute diarrhea episode due to the after-infection.
Other medical problems (for instance, overactive thyroid)
