Everything You Need to Know About Sciatica – Symptoms,Signs,Causes, Risk factors and Treatments

Lumbar spondylosis

It is a degenerative disease that affects both vertebrae and intervertebral discs. Lumbar spondylosis affects the lower back vertebrae, known as lumbar vertebrae, and the discs between them. The degeneration of the vertebrae may result from osteoporosis, which leads to erosion of the bone and reduce the spaces between the vertebrae after destructing the intervertebral discs. The vertebrae allow nerve roots to pass through them, but when the degeneration happens, they will compress the nerves, including the sciatic nerve. If the pain persists and becomes excruciating, it may be a symptom of severe sciatic nerve injury or separation. Sciatic nerve injury or separation leads to irreversible paralysis of the muscles innervated by the sciatic nerve. It innervates the back muscles of the thigh, legs, and foot, leading to paralysis of the lower limb on the same side of the affected nerve if it injured or separated.
