Hormonal Therapy
Cancers like breast and prostate cancer are often influenced by the hormone levels in the body. For example, estrogen can fuel some breast cancer growth (estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer), and testosterone can stimulate prostate cancer growth. Hormones, thus act as petrol on a fire to fuel the growth of these cancers.
Hormone treatments, also called endocrine therapy, block this hormone-stimulating effect to halt a cancer’s growth. This can be achieved by way of an oral drug, injection, or surgery.
