Alprostadil self-injection
The self-injection method allows a patient to use a fine needle to give a shot of alprostadil directly into the side or the base of his penis. In few cases, the doctors typically use medications for other conditions in combination with penile injections. Some examples of combination medications include phentolamine and alprostadil. Sometimes, these combination medications are known as bimix i.e., if it includes two medications or a trimix i.e., if it includes three medications. Each injection dose creates erection that lasts no longer than an hour as the needle is very fine and creates minor pain at the injection site. Some side effects can include formation of fibrous tissues rarely at the injection site and prolonged erection known as priapism.
