Hoarseness of the voice
There is a joint in front of the trachea that connects cricoid cartilage and the thyroid cartilage. This joint moves along with vocal cord movements and helps with speech and breathing. Rheumatoid arthritis may affect this joint, giving rise to a condition called cricoarytenoid arthritis. Arthritis of this joint causes stiffness and difficultness in joint movements, which will cause hoarseness of the voice as a part of vocal cord limitation.
