All cells including the hair cells require certain doses of vitamin A for optimal growth. The fastest growing tissue of the human body is hair, which needs more of the vitamin A for proper growth and avoid hair loss. In addition, vitamin A also aids skin glands making an oily substance known as sebum. Sebum is the greasy substance that nourishes the scalp and helps in keeping the hair healthy. People who are on diets deficient in vitamin A might lead to various health issues including hair loss.

You don’t need huge doses of vitamin but it is important to get enough of vitamin A. Studies reveal that excess amounts of vitamin A can also lead to hair loss, so less is more for vitamin A intake. Some dietary sources of vitamin A include foods such as carrots, pumpkin, kale, spinach, and sweet potatoes having beta-carotene which turns into vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A is also present in animal food sources like eggs, milk and yogurt. Cod liver oil is another good food source to obtain vitamin A.
