Spironolactone (Aldactone) is a diuretic, which means it vanish the excessive fluid from your body. It also stops androgen production, and it may be helpful in re-growing hair in women mostly.  This medication may cause several side effects such as:

  • Fatigue
  • Irregular menstruation
  • Electrolyte imbalances
  • Tender breasts
  • Staining between periods

You may require checking blood pressure daily and electrolyte tests while using this drug. If you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant, you better use this drug. Spironolactone might cause birth defects. The only drugs recommended by the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to cure the hair loss problem are finasteride (Propecia) and minoxidil (Rogaine).
