Drinking too much alcohol

Drinking too much alcohol

Alcohol abuse can result in the subsequent lack of glucose level in the blood. Drinking too much alcohol can alter the function of liver cells which causes malfunctioning of the liver. The liver which goes through consistent abuse from alcohol is no longer able to secrete glucagon, which stimulates the glucose back into the bloodstream. The malfunctioning of liver cells causes temporary hypoglycemia by causing a shortage of glucagon hormone. Glucagon is the hormone which comes from the pancreas and signals the liver to break down the glycogen into small units of two glucose molecules when there is dropping of glucose level in the bloodstream. However, when the liver is not functioning correctly, then there is no flowing back of glucose into the bloodstream from the glycogen stored in the liver.
