Skin Cancer or Melanoma
Malignant melanoma or skin cancer and its treatment can also contribute to the development of vitiligo. But research indicates vitiligo does not cause skin cancer and might even lead to some protection against it and different other types of cancer possibly due to faulty genetics. However, vitiligo has an association with cutaneous melanoma, and most of the antigens that the immune system recognizes share the same expression in both normal melanocytes and melanoma cells.
