There is no reason to explain if vitiligo will spread. For a few people, the white patches do not extend. But sometimes the white patches will spread to some other parts of the body. For most people, vitiligo extended slowly, by many years. However, for other people, spreading appears quickly. Most people have been reported more patches after emotional or physical stress. Vitiligo is trouble in which patches begin appearing on various parts of your body such as inside your mouth, eyes, and hair. This complication occurs when the cells are destroyed completely that make the pigment (color) and they are called melanocytes.

The trouble is photosensitive (the area that is affected is more sensitive to sunlight in comparison to other parts of the body). However, patches are more obvious if you are having dark skin. One of the most occurring questions that patients ask is whether the patches will not spread or will spread. For such, there is no accurate answer. Individuals who form such conditions notice white or pale patches on their skin. In a few cases, the white patches trouble remains stable (do not spread) for various years or months. Therefore, sometimes the patches spread at a quite fast speed to other body parts as well. Initially, these patches are quite small, but after some time, they start to grow and also alter their shape. Because of this, it might affect an individual physically and emotionally.

Some patients also assume that such a problem is contagious which is also not accurate. It means it will not spread by touching another individual as such a condition is an autoimmune disease (the immune system of the body attack your healthy cells) also exposure to other factors such as environmental.  Vitiligo is an acquired disease of depigmentation characterized by white patches and macules on a different part of the body that reflects selective melanocyte destruction. This situation affects all races over the world. Even though it is not a painful condition, there are a lot of stains that occur because of cosmetic disfigurement.

This condition tends to affect the quality of life that is suffering from the disease and the patients sometimes suffer from low self-esteem and psychological distress. They are at times subjected to social neglect that in return makes them separate themselves from society. Old-age misconceptions and inadequate knowledge are the main reasons for such undue apprehension linked with such a condition. There is a misconception that such disorder might spread through contact. Therefore, vitiligo is a non-contagious disease and does not spread through contact. However, another myth is regarding dietary habits. For example, individuals who liked to implicate fish; sour food, white food, etc. also, consider them to be a concern for vitiligo.

The exact reason for vitiligo is still not known. Various theories have been proposed consisting of a hypothesis relying on neural, genetic, biochemical, antioxidant deficiency theory, autoimmune, and auto cytotoxic phenomena. Vitiligo has liked various autoimmune diseases such as alopecia areata, diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorder, pernicious anemia, and alopecia areata.
