It Is Important To Learn about The Major Two Types Of Vitiligo, which Are
Non-segmental vitiligo
Non-segmental vitiligo is the most common type of vitiligo which can lead to pale skin patches that usually appear on both sides of the body. The initial signs might show up on fingertips, wrists, feet, hands, or around the eyes or mouth. Non-segmental vitiligo is also known as generalized or bilateral vitiligo. There are further subtypes of vitiligo depending on the way the skin disorder presents itself. The subtypes of non-segmental vitiligo include the following:
- Mucosal vitiligo
It affects the mucous membranes of the nose, genitals, and mouth.
- Acrofacial vitiligo
Acrofacial vitiligo causes the appearance of white patches on the hands, feet, and face.
- Localized or focal vitiligo
It occurs in just a few areas of the body.
- Universal vitiligo
Universal vitiligo seems to affect almost 80 to 90% of a person’s skin.
Segmental vitiligo
Segmental vitiligo causes white patches often start to appear on just one side of the body including one leg or one arm. Loss of hair color is also common in segmental vitiligo. Segmental vitiligo might spread rapidly for six months to two years by beginning early in life. (3)
