Mother to child
There is a mild to moderate chance that a mother who is already infected with the HCV virus through unprotected sex or by other means will transfer the infection on to her baby. An infected mother can pass on this virus during childbirth. The comparative risk of this transmission route is also very low compared to blood transfusion and only involves 5% of the infected cases.
In comparison to hepatitis B infection, this virus is not thought to be transmitted via breast feeding.
