If a person breathes in chemical fumes and dust from cotton, wood, grain, or mining products then you are more likely to develop emphysema gradually. The risk of getting emphysema is even higher if you are smoking nicotine or even marijuana. Frequent exposure to outdoor and indoor pollution can also lead to the development of emphysema.
