Complications can develop in people who get later stage diagnosis of emphysema and their treatment is not working on them. People having emphysema are more likely to develop some of the following complications: [9]
Heart problems
Emphysema can increase the pressure on the arteries by blood that connects the lungs and heart. Increasing blood pressure or hypertension can lead to a condition known as cor pulmonale, in which a portion of the heart expands and suffer from weakness.
