Spirometry and pulmonary function tests (PFT)

Spirometry and pulmonary function tests (PFT) is one of the most beneficial tests to detect the blockage in airways. A spirometry or PFT tests the volume of lungs by measuring airflow while a patient exhales and inhales. A PFT or spirometry allows the person to take a deep breath and then blow into a tube that hooks up to a specialized machine. The doctors then compare the test results of PFT or spirometry with normal results from people of similar age, height, weight, gender, and ethnic background.
