Planlobular emphysema is the morphologically descriptive form of emphysema that clearly depicts by permanent damage of the entire alveolar spaces within the distal portion of the lungs. The alveolar sacs along with the respiratory bronchioles with no visible fibrosis present. There is a link between panlobular emphysema and the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as COPD is an umbrella term that involves the symptoms of chronic bronchitis and emphysema. According to the statistics, almost 16 million adults have some type of COPD, emphysema, or chronic bronchitis diagnosis every year. The planlobular or paancinar emphysema is a type of emphysema that damages a specific part of the lungs. There is permanent damage to the lung structure and air sacs in the lungs in the type of planlobular emphysema.
