Serologic Testing

Serologic testing

The routine testing for serological samples for influenza viruses requires the combination of convalescent and acute sera. The serum from patients with susceptible symptoms of influenza tests for the antibodies made against the influenza virus is usually not the medical professionals’ first recommendation. Serological testing does not provide the result that helps in clinical decision-making. The availability of serologic testing is in a limited number of research or public health laboratories. The result of serological specimens for the antibodies on a single specimen is not easy to interpret. The doctors recommend the use of serological testing only for public health research and investigations.
