Other molecular assays
Other molecular assays like reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) can help in the identification of influenza viral RNA with very high precision and sensitivity in the respiratory specimens. Some of the molecular assays can detect and differentiate among infections with influenza virus A and influenza virus B. At the same time, other tests can identify certain subtypes of seasonal influenza A. The results from the molecular assays yield in approximately 1-8 hours.
