Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy uses x-rays or radioactive substances to destroy cancer cells and to shrink tumors. Radiation therapy is an important part of treatment for many patients; the treatment plan is customized for each patient depending upon their treatment needs and goals.

After surgery, radiation therapy can be recommended to kill the remaining cancer cells in the areas where lymph nodes have been removed. The treatment is also used to provide relief from cancer symptoms and reduce the spread of the disease.

Radiation therapy can be used as a primary treatment or in combination with other treatments to stop cancer cells from growing. If the therapy is being used before other treatment, it will help in shrinkage of the tumor, and if it is being used after its to stop the growth of remaining cancer cells.

The oncologists monitor the effectiveness of radiation throat and then modify treatments accordingly.
