Occupational Exposures
Researchers have linked an increased risk of asthma to exposure to irritants such as pesticides. The danger extends beyond those who, including farmers, work with pesticides. Other people who are at high risk include:
Children of pesticide workers who wear pesticide residue clothes or store equipment near their homes.
- People living near areas treated with pesticides or factories
- People living in agricultural areas where spraying of pesticides is likely to occur indoors or outdoors.
- A risk factor for asthma may also be exposed to harsh chemicals such as cleaning products. This is particularly true for airborne spray cleaning products.
