ARFID Causes
According to research on ARFID, this condition can be attributed to three factors: genetic, sociocultural, and psychological.
- Genetic Factors
It has been found that genetic factors can significantly influence eating disorders. Families are affected by eating disorders, and temperamental factors that predispose individuals to developing the disease can be passed on through generations.
- Sociocultural Factors
ARFID and other eating disorders can also be caused by sociocultural factors. Culture-based demands for clean/pure/healthy eating as well as an increased interest in food processes, sourcing, packaging, and the environment can influence food beliefs and consumption.
- Psychological Factors
Eating disorders are typically accompanied by anxiety and obsessive compulsive symptoms, as are co-occurring mood and anxiety disorders.
