Causes Of Anorexia Nervosa
There are many causes linked to the developement of anorexia nervosa. This may include one or more of the following;
- Trauma
Traumatized individuals are more likely to develop eating disorders if their unresolved feelings from the trauma do not receive adequate treatment.
- Social Causes
- Predisposing social factors for anorexia include:
- Having a perfectionistic personality
- Negative emotions are difficult to communicate
- Conflict resolution is difficult
- Self-esteem issues

- Weight loss encouragement from a mother and negativity expressed by their mother
- Occupational or recreational activities that involve weight, such as modeling, acting, gymnastics, ballet, skating, wrestling, or long-distance running
- Biological
It appears that anorexia runs in families as well as among individuals who have a family history of eating disorders, substance abuse or depression, which puts them at higher risk.
