Everything You Need to Know About Gingivitis (Gum Disease ) – Symptoms, Causes, Prevention and Treatments

Oil pulling

Oil pulling is a unique technique used to treat many oral conditions. It involves swirling the oil around the mouth for up to 15-20 minutes. Studies have shown that it may combat the buildup of plaque and reduce bacteria in the mouth that causes gingivitis. To try oil pulling,

  1. Put two teaspoons of oil in your mouth
  2. Swirl it around for 15-20 minutes, and then spit it out.
  3. Rinse your mouth with fresh water. Also, don’t forget to drink a glass of water before cleaning your teeth.

If you find it hard to keep oil in the mouth for this length of time, try shorter periods at the start and increase gradually. Oils that you can use for this treatment include;

  • Coconut oil: Research and clinical trials have found that coconut oil can reduce plaque and prevent signs of gingivitis and other gum diseases when used for oil pulling.
  • Arimedadi oil: This oil has been shown to prevent the buildup of plaque and ease gingivitis symptoms.
