Achilles tendon repair
Sometimes, when the Achilles tendon breaks far off from the bone a surgical treatment is required to connect the tendon from the calf to the heel bone. The surgical treatment for Achilles tendon has shown better results than non-surgical treatment. During the surgery, the surgeon either stitches the tendon to the heel bone, removes the damaged tendon or takes a tendon from another part of the body and stitches the heel bone and calf together. Some side effects of Achilles tendon surgery include:
- Weakness in calf
- Loss of blood
- Pain in the ankle and foot
