Sweets and desserts
Foods with high sugars should be avoided. Examples of sweets and desserts to avoid during a flare-up diet include:
- Dried fruit
- Jams
- Coconut
- Raisins
- Foods containing bran, such as muffins
- Cookies made with whole-grain flour
An affected person should also avoid sweets made up of sugar alcohols, as these can cause gas and bloating in some people. Examples include mannitol, xylitol, and sorbitol.
