Gender and Asthma
Asthma is more prevalent in teenager boys than in girls. It is unclear why this happens, although some researchers consider that the airway size of a young male is smaller than the airway of the female, which may lead to an increased risk of wheezing after a cold or other viral infection. The asthma ratio for men and women is the same at age 20. At 40 years of age, more women than men have asthma.
