Peeling of the Skin

Sometimes the skin of the affected joint area begins to peel as a patient recovers from an acute gout attack. It usually occurs in cases where tenderness and joint swelling is high. The presentation could be the appearance of a red or purple sheen on the skin. In such cases, the surface of the affected joint area starts to peel, giving way to a fresh layer of skin. You may experience slight itching during this phase.

In most cases, the peeling stops in about a couple of days. The recovery period also depends on how severe the attack has been and the joint affected. You can also contact your doctor to reduce itching or speed up recovery process.
