Optical Coherence Tomography

Optical Coherence Tomography

It is a noninvasive imaging technique that displays a detailed cross-sectional image of the retina. The image is made by accurately measuring the amount of dim red light that reflects off the retina.

OCT is an effective way of measuring the nerve layer’s thickness; it provides useful information about drusen, blood vessels, retinal structure, and hemorrhaging.

In the procedure, the individual rests their chin on the machine and eye look into the lens. Nothing touches the eyes; the OCT scan just takes a few minutes per eye. The whole procedure takes about 45 minutes to complete.
